3. How we use your personal information
We may use your personal information for the following purposes or as otherwise described at the time of collection:
Service delivery and operations. We may use your personal information to:
- provide the Services;
- enable security features of the Services;
- communicate with you about the Services, including by sending Service-related announcements, updates, security alerts, and support and administrative messages; and

Service personalization, which may include using your personal information to understand your needs and interests; personalize your experience with the Services and our Service-related communications; and remember your selections and preferences as you navigate webpages.
Service improvement and analytics. We may use your personal information to analyze your usage of the Services, improve the Services, improve the rest of our business, help us understand user activity on the Services, including which pages are most and least visited and how visitors move around the Services, and to develop new products and services.
Research and model development. We may use Research Data to develop, train, evaluate, and improve our current and future AI models, products, and services and for other machine learning purposes, as described in the Research Agreement and subject to your consent choices.
Compliance and protection. We may use your personal information to:
- comply with applicable laws, lawful requests, and legal process, such as to respond to subpoenas, investigations or requests from government authorities;
- protect our, your or others’ rights, privacy, safety or property (including by making and defending legal claims);
- audit our internal processes for compliance with legal and contractual requirements or our internal policies;
- enforce the terms and conditions that govern the Services; and
- prevent, identify, investigate and deter fraudulent, harmful, unauthorized, unethical or illegal activity, including cyberattacks and identity theft.
Further uses. In some cases, we may use your personal information for further uses, in which case we will ask for your consent to use your personal information for those further purposes if they are not compatible with the initial purpose for which information was collected.
5. Research Data, biometrics, and no sale
We do not sell your personal information within the meaning of applicable state privacy laws. We do not sell, rent, or independently license Research Data, including recordings, transcripts, application context, and associated derived data. We do not process your personal information for targeted advertising purposes.
We do not use face or voice data to identify you, authenticate your identity, or match your identity against other datasets. These restrictions apply to our service providers when they process Research Data on our behalf.
References to personal information include information about individuals from which they are either directly identified or can be identified. Face and voice recordings and their derived features may remain personal information even when names and other direct identifiers have been removed.
We may create aggregated, de-identified and/or anonymized data from your personal information and other individuals whose personal information we collect. We may use this data for our lawful business purposes, including analyzing and improving the Services, and to train our AI models and for other machine learning purposes. We will not attempt to reidentify any such data. The no-sale and independent-licensing restrictions above continue to apply to Research Data after these transformations, as do your consent choices.
6. Retention
We generally retain personal information to fulfill the purposes for which we collected it, including for the purposes of satisfying any legal, accounting, or reporting requirements, establishing or defending legal claims, or for fraud prevention purposes. To determine the appropriate retention period for personal information, we may consider factors such as the amount, nature, and sensitivity of the personal information, the potential risk of harm from unauthorized use or disclosure of your personal information, the purposes for which we process your personal information and whether we can achieve those purposes through other means, the Services and features you use, your requests, and the applicable legal requirements.
Subject to those legal requirements, we apply the following schedule:
- Account data is kept while your account is active. After you ask us to delete your account, we ordinarily complete deletion of associated service data, including models trained for you, within 30 days. We may keep a minimal record of your agreement, withdrawal, or deletion request and any fraud or security record.
- Research Data is kept until you withdraw consent or request deletion, or until the purpose for which we collected it has been satisfied, whichever comes first. In all cases, biometric identifiers and biometric information are destroyed no later than three years after your last interaction with Shelest, unless a shorter period applies.
- Usage data is generally kept for no more than 24 months, and server logs for no more than 30 days.
When we no longer require the personal information we have collected about you, we will delete or anonymize it, or isolate it from further processing where retention is required by law. Research Data is also subject to the retention and destruction provisions of the Research Agreement, including any shorter applicable legal deadline.
Backup and disaster-recovery copies may remain for up to 7 days after deletion until overwritten or deleted in the ordinary backup cycle. During that period, we isolate them from further business processing, including model training, except as needed for disaster recovery, security, or legal compliance. If restored, they remain subject to applicable deletion requests and processing restrictions. Any retained copies remain subject to applicable legal deletion deadlines.
8. Security and international transfers
We employ technical, organizational and physical safeguards designed to protect the personal information we collect. However, security risk is inherent in all internet and information technologies and we cannot guarantee the security of your personal information.
We may use service providers that operate in other countries. Your personal information may be transferred to locations where privacy laws may not be as protective as those in your state, province, or country. Where required by applicable law, we use appropriate safeguards for these transfers, such as standard-form contracts approved by relevant authorities for this purpose.

If you are not satisfied with our response to a request you make, or how we process your personal information, you can make a complaint to the data protection regulator in your habitual place of residence.
Requests and authorized agents. We may request specific information from you to help us confirm your identity and process your request. Under some state privacy laws, you may enable an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf. 11. Children
The Services are not intended for use by anyone under 18 years of age. If you are a parent or guardian of a child from whom you believe we have collected personal information in a manner prohibited by law, please contact us.
